Mindfulness: Tending to Your Grief

This is a 6-week program for those experiencing grief offered by Sharing Kindness and Calmer Choice. This program will be supplemented by a therapist skilled in grief support. Recommended for adults & children 8 -12 years old.

“Mindfulness is meant to help you acknowledge the truth of the moment you are in, even, or especially, when that moment hurts. Acknowledgment of the truth is a relief, and it heals. To come to what is true now, and be with it, that is compassion. That is the practice.” —Megan Devine

For the Adult
Grief is such a disorienting time. So much no longer makes sense, and even simple things can feel complicated. Grief has no expiration date. We carry our losses with us. Can the practice of mindfulness ever apply to grief?

This 6-week program provides skills and tools to support personal stress management and the emotional health and well-being for adults. It is composed of foundational practices in mindful awareness coupled with discussions and self-reflective practice that support self-compassion, kindness, and emotional regulation.

For the Children
This program is geared toward children 8-12 years old and will provide your child with tools and opportunities to practice skills that increase present-moment awareness, support emotional regulation and improve stress reduction while allowing them to tend to their grief in the way that is right for them. These skills will be taught through fun engaging activities and discussions. One of the most helpful and healing things we can do for a grieving child is to listen to his or her experiences without jumping in to judge, evaluate or fix.
