“A single act of kindness throws out roots in all directions, and the roots spring up and make new trees.”
– Amelia Earhart
A tree is only as strong as its roots. At the root of our organization is a group of selfless individuals who give their time, talents and passion for this cause, keeping us grounded and helping us grow and thrive in everything we do. They are our volunteers.
Volunteer opportunities at Sharing Kindness are ever-changing, and may include the following:
- Networking to grow our donor base
- Researching and/or writing grant opportunities
- Helping at events like our annual Cape & Islands Suicide Awareness Walk
- Facilitating peer grief support groups with our mental health clinician (see details below)
If you’re interested in lending a hand to our organization, then we welcome your enthusiasm and look forward to you joining our team. “Thank you” only begins to express our appreciation for the donation of your time, energy and support!
Current need: we are seeking volunteers to co-facilitate peer grief support groups.
Imagine losing someone close to you and dealing with the painful emotions of grief, while feeling entirely alone. No matter how hard you try to explain, no one seems to “get” what you’re going through. For many, this won’t require much imagination: if you’ve experienced loss, you know how lonely it can be.
That’s why Sharing Kindness will be offering peer grief support groups to help people cope with loss together, alongside others who are grieving too. To run these programs, we need the help of trained volunteer facilitators to co-lead groups with our clinicians. Volunteers must complete a three-day training on our peer grief support methods, based on the Dougy Center Model. We hope you’ll consider participating to help us offer hope and support to our grieving community. Learn more about volunteer training and why it matters.
Our next training is scheduled for Friday, September 30-Sunday, October 2.
